Temporary toilets are to be installed in Leigh while a new £300,000 rest room is built.
Work is underway to demolish the public toilets in the alley between Rectory Grove and the Broadway West.
However residents raised their concerns to the town council about there not being any public toilets while the work, which is expected to take three months, is done.
Councillors have agreed to the temporary toilets, which will be paid for by Southend Council which is footing the cost of the refurbishment, being installed in the car park at the back of their office in Elm Road.
