Happy smiling faces, laughter and fascination. Not the sort of reactions you would normally get inside Basildon Crown Court, but Saturday saw a very special day.
The simple idea of opening up the combined court in the Gore was to help demystify the work of the court.
However, thanks to the extra effort put in by staff who work inside the stylish and bright building, and those who work alongside them, young and old were granted an open day with a difference.
A queue of eager visitors formed outside the court before the doors opened and court manager Veronica Reed was on hand at the foyer to welcome them all.
She said: "It has been a marvellous success, even better than we had hoped. There has been a steady stream of people coming in an looking around."
