Although highly delighted by the win over QPR, Colchester boss Steve Whitton said: "That doesn't mean we take our foot off the pedal and stop playing.
"There are still six games left and 18 points to play for, and although the mood at Layer Road was somewhat buoyant today the same work ethic will be in place as that following last week's poor performance at Peterborough."
Whitton added: "It was by no means a classic performance in beating QPR, but every one of my players worked hard and we deserved our breaks.
"Kemi did brilliantly where it mattered and had a great hand in two of the goals, while the quality of our finishing from Kevin Rapley and Scott McGleish was top class.
"Let's hope these two can finish off the season the same way they started it, with a hatful of goals.
