Young artists gave judges a monstrous headache when they took part in a special scary competition.
Southend libraries, Odeon cinemas and Ottakars' bookshop got together and launched a competition to tie in with the release of the Disney film Monsters Inc.
Youngsters were invited to draw a really scary monster and 1,600 people entered.
Matt Holmes, Southend library's marketing manager, said: "The judges had a monstrous job."
The lucky winners will be given free cinema tickets and Monsters Inc prizes.
