A heartbroken son is desperate to track a lorry driver who battled in vain to save his dad after he suffered a heart attack at Sadlers Farm roundabout.

Thanks - Thomas Carr's son Mark, left, wants to hear from the lorry driver who tried to save his dad at the busy Sadlers Farm roundabout 88DJT1

Thomas Carr, 56, of Kenneth Road, Pitsea, was driving a friend's car he had just repaired when the clutch broke at the busy junction in Benfleet.

The former mechanic and his friend pulled the white Vauxhall Cavalier over to the side of the road and set off to find a taxi.

But as they walked across the roundabout Mr Carr suffered a heart attack and collapsed. Despite desperate attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Basildon Hospital.

Today, his son Mark issued an emotional plea to a lorry driver who was seen by ambulance crews trying to resuscitate his father during the incident, at around 4pm on Monday.

Mark, 29, said: "We want to find this man, mainly because we want to thank him for all he did. We know he did he best to try to save him and we all want to ask what really happened.

"I have not had time to grieve yet, but maybe finding out more will help us all move on."

The funeral of Mr Carr, who was well known in the Pitsea area, will take place at Pitsea Crematorium on Friday, March 22.
