COLCHESTER United's Second Division status is almost certain for another season following their three-goal demolition job on promotion-chasing QPR at Layer Road.
Two goals from Kevin Rapley either side of half-time and one from leading scorer Scott McGleish killed off the visitors lingering play-off hopes and eased the U's own relegation worries at the same time.
Rangers netted a last ditch consolation effort via second half substitute Doudou in injury time.
The win was only the U's second in 14 matches and their first since winning at bottom of the table Cambridge seven games earlier.
The victory also produced a man-of-the-match performance from U's new boy, Australian international and ex-Derby County central defender, Con Blatsis who signed non-contract terms less than 24 hours earlier.
