Canvey stayed top of the Ryman Premier Division thanks to Lee Boylan's solitary goal at Maidenhead United.
The Seagulls won't mind the fact that this was, predominantly, a dour affair with very little to separate two sides struggling to find form after recent blips.
The fact that Canvey remain three points ahead of favourites Gravesend came about on the stroke of half-time as Duffy and Gregory combined to flick the ball across to Lee Boylan who stabbed home from close range.
Before then, Canvey had been the better side without creating much in the final third. Duffy had a goal ruled out while Steve Tilson went close with a poked shot only to be well denied by Barnard in the home goal.
Maidenhead rallied late on but Canvey stood firm to claim the points. Jeff King and co. with have one eye on Gravesend's match with bottom club Croydon on Tuesday night.
