Veteran Aveley road safety campaigner Eddie Hockley is up in arms over new "No Entry" signs on the Kenningtons estate.
He says new signposts - at the junction of Nethan Drive and Nare Road - have been erected and left partially hidden by the old posts.
"They've been left there for weeks," he said.
"The old, rusting posts block the centre of the sign and I was concerned that anybody driving the wrong way along the road might not be prosecuted if they said the sign was obscured."
A spokeswoman for Thurrock Council said that the delay was due to waiting for 24-7 to connect the new signs to the electricity supply.
"This should have been done, or will be done very soon. Then we can remove the old posts," she said.
