Work on a skateboard park in South Woodham Ferrers could start much sooner than expected.
Town council bosses say they could have access to up to £20,000 in grants and earmarked funds to help fund the scheme.
The total cost is expected to be in the region of about £30,000 but today town council leisure committee chairman Jim Barnet said they would prefer to start building work anyway.
The plans for a site in Compass Gardens have been drawn up by the town's youth council and planning permission would be sought in its name.
However, it is an offshoot of the town council and so a lot of the money is set to come from them.
