A council has asked for more money to be spent saving axe-threatened Chapel Hill School in Braintree.
With the future of Chapel Hill hanging in the balance, Braintree Council is continuing its support for the school.
In a report, the council has asked members to continue to oppose closing the school.
A council spokeswoman said: "We are reaffirming our position that we do not want the school to close. We want to see more money put into improving standards at the school."
However, in the event of the school being closed, the council is asking the county council for assurances that the school re-opens not more than a year later and will be maintained and upgraded significantly during the period of closure.
The report will be discussed at a meeting of the Braintree Area Committee on Tuesday.
