It might not attract the biggest of derby crowds in non-league football, but don't let that fool you. There's plenty of rivalry and passion flowing between Grays and Purfleet these days - and no wonder.

Both are enjoying outstanding seasons in the Ryman Premier Division and never before has a derby taken place with the pair so high in the table.

Grays are third and Purfleet fifth, five points further back and having played a game more.

So Blues are very much in the driving seat to take over as Thurrock's top team for the first time in seven seasons - and they could soon be revealing plans for a new multi-million pound stadium in the borough.

The teams have met three times already this term with a win apiece and whilst the respective managers wouldn't admit to being the best of friends, they have a measure of respect for each other's sides.

"What Craig Edwards has done is superb because until he arrived last season Grays were almost certain to be relegated," said Fleet's Colin McBride.

"I'm looking forward to the game. It should be a very interesting one."

Edwards described Purfleet as a "strong side" and one adept at set-pieces. "They are a different type of team to us. Purfleet are more basic and direct, but are tough to deal with from set plays," explained Edwards.

Interstingly both have won their last four league games and could be missing a key player apiece at the Rec tomorrow.

Grays leading striker, 22-goal man Nathan Thomas, is doubtful following the injury sustained in the outstanding 5-3 win at Chesham. Tony Lock will be the favourite to replace him.

Fleet have central defender Dean Chandler suspended, which could see Steve Pashley switch into defence and club record signing, midfielder Danny Jones, earn a recall.
