Marcus Stewart's second half strike was not enough for Ipswich last night as they moved closer to the relegation zone after losing to fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers.
First half goals from Damien Duff and Andy Cole effectively sunk Ipswich Town in the tie at Ewood Park.
Duff's movement on 20 minutes bewildered the Town defence as he took on four defenders before beating Town keeper Matteo Sereni.
Sereni was beaten again just before half time as Andy Cole staked his claim for an England place by beating the Town keeper on 43 minutes.
Stewart headed Jermaine Wright's corner into the Blackburn net on 54 minutes.
It was some consolation for Town who had the ball in the net earlier in the match through Alun Armstrong but his effort was ruled offside.
But ultimately it was Blackburn who took the points as the Rovers defence held out.
