Marcus Stewart said his first Premiership goal since November counted for 'absolutely nothing' as Ipswich Town crashed 2-1 at Blackburn Rovers.
Last season's top-scorer provided second-half hope for the Blues in last night's crunch clash at Ewood Park, heading home a corner from Mark Venus.
But the lifeline came too late for relegation-haunted Ipswich, who were beaten by first-half strikes from Damien Duff and Andy Cole.
A dejected Stewart, who endured a two-month lay-off because of a broken jaw, said: "It's always nice to score but overall this one counts for absolutely nothing.
"The only thing I was interested in was the result. The fact we lost against one of our main rivals totally overshadows the goal.
"But we've got to get over this and stay confident. Certainly the lads still believe in themselves and spirits are high.
"We can take heart from certain aspects of the night, especially our performance in the second half."
"We dominated after the break and I thought we were very unlucky not to get anything from the game."
