Vulnerable and isolated residents will have peace of mind after a new community warden scheme is launched in Basildon, it was claimed today.
Three wardens are to be hired to monitor and clean up housing estates in the town. They will patrol Churchview and Laindon's Five Links estates.
The third mobile warden will cover housing association properties in Pitsea, Vange, Chalvedon and Felmores.
A spokesperson for the scheme said: "Their physical presence on the estate will help create a safe, secure and welcoming environment by providing a friendly face and watching eye for residents, especially those who feel isolated or vulnerable."
The community wardens will not have any policing powers, but will have regular meetings with local agencies including police, local authority and housing staff to highlight concerns raised by the local community.
