Thurrock's Alex Felton has produced the performance of his life.
He was unseeded at the English Schools championships at the Astrodome, Doncaster, yet reached the quarter-finals of the singles.
And Felton can count himself very unfortunate not to have progressed further. On match point in the third game against England No 5 Jason Mitchell he pulled a ligament and was never able to move as freely again. The final score was 15-13 13-15 14-17.
On his way to the last eight, he gained revenge from a previous defeat by his doubles' partner Craig Spooner (14-17 15-13 15-4) and knocked out the Sussex No 2 Matthew Askey 15-11 17-14.
Felton also made his mark in the boys' doubles by again reaching the quater-finals where with Spooner, he lost to Yorkshire's Andrew Ellis and Peter Fearns 8-15 11-15.
