Dedicated pupils who get a taste for success are being rewarded with meals at McDonald's.
Youngsters at a mid-Essex primary school are being given an incentive to try harder, courtesy of the fast food giant.
Instead of gold stars or merit points, the children can tuck in to burgers, shakes or whatever else takes their fancy.
The Maldon branch of McDonald's has agreed to sponsor a scheme, set up by teachers, to reward improvements in both schoolwork and behaviour at Woodham Walter Primary School.
The weekly award system is called Star of the Week. Certificates and gifts or meal vouchers are given to pupils who prove themselves.
Headteacher Tessa Pemberton said the certificate scheme had been running at the school for some time but now Mcdonald's had decided to support it.
She said: "It's very, very effective. The children are incredibly proud when they get the award."
