A Victorian or Edwardian era design must be at the centre of plans to redevelop Southend's pier, say critics of the latest plans for the landmark.
Visitors to the pier want to see a traditional redesign in sympathy with its roots and not the "modern" makeover which has been designed.
The comments come from Adventure Island boss Philip Miller, and Peggy Dowie, chairman of the Pier Museum Trust.
