Police are looking for two males and a female after they tried to steal money from the Blue Boar Hotel in Silver Street, Maldon.
They went into the hotel between 5pm and 5.30pm on Thursday, March 7, and tried to break into the cash draw in reception.
However their attempts were thwarted when they were disturbed by a member of staff, but they managed to cause £50 worth of damage.
The first suspect is a white male in his mid 20's, 5ft 10in, who was wearing a grey jumper and dark trousers. He had a very untidy appearance and was unshaven.
The second is also a white male in his mid 20's, 5ft 10in who also looked untidy and was unshaven. He had brown hair and was wearing a white baseball cap, a white fleece and dark trousers.
The female is described as 5ft 4in, with long black hair tied back who was wearing a black leather coat and dark trousers.
Police are appealing to anybody in the area between 5pm and 5.30pm and are asked to contact PC Nigel Donkin on 01621 852255.
