Basildon is set to be a cleaner and greener town as a new army of workers takes to the streets.
Teams of cleaners, including grounds maintenance staff, are to provide a range of services to encourage residents to "rediscover a sense of community pride", according to Basildon Council.
Five teams will be in place by the end of September and will cover Basildon, Vange, Wickford and Billericay, and could provide the following services:
Removal of abandoned cars upgraded street lighting grass cutting and edging in parks weed control tree maintenance regular cleaning of play areas cleaning of water channels and gullies
Council leader John Potter said: "It's important for people to live in a clean and attractive place and also for visitors and business people to be welcomed by a smart and tidy town."
