Rule Britannia will be the theme of this year's Horndon Feast and Fayre, organisers have just announced.
The two-day fayre is Thurrock's largest summer event attracting thousands of people each year and arrangements for this year are well advanced.
The fayre, which dates back to the middle ages, will take place on June 29 and 30 when the village will be closed to traffic and its streets turned into a colourful spectacle of crafts, entertainment, costumes, fun activities and charity fundraising. As usual, the Horndon 10k run will be held on the Sunday.
Organisers are hoping stallholders and visitors will dress in traditional British costumes and should England reach the final - scheduled for the Sunday - of the World Cup, patriotic fervour is sure to reach fever pitch because a big TV screen has been arranged in The Swan car park.
Feast and fayre Coordinator Kim Towlson said plans were progressing smoothly although he has made a call for local talent in Thurrock to come forward and add more colour and fun to the event.
Entertainers should call Kim Towlson on 01375 679896 and potential stallholders should contact Peter Rood on 01375 678720.
