A goal from Brian Barry-Murphy was not enough for Southend to get anything from their match with Leyton Orient last night.
Kevin Nugent put the home side ahead on 12 minutes and the lead was doubled on 31 minutes with Iysden Christie beating Southend keeper Darryl Flahavan.
Former Shrimper Carl Hutchings also went close twice for Orient in the second half but Flahavan was equal to the task.
Barrington Belgrave managed to hit the woodwork on the hour before Murphy managed to reduce the arrears.
But Southend couldn't manage a draw leaving them with their first defeat in five games.
