Rush hour traffic was thrown into chaos after a two-car collision blocked Burnham Road, South Woodham Ferrers for two hours.

Commuters were diverted through the town causing substantial tailbacks as the fire service freed a man from his BMW 320.

The almost head-on collision happened at 6am on Monday and three fire appliance attended and helped to release the man who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The 50-year-old driver of the BMW, from South Woodham Ferrers, was travelling towards Rettendon when the collision took place.

The 28-year-old Wickford driver of the other car, a Land Rover, was also taken to hospital but was released after treatment.
