Two robbers threatened a man with a knife then stole cash and a mobile phone as he walked along an alleyway in Colchester.
The victim was in Artillery Barracks Folley at 8.50am yesterday when the men both white aged 23 to 24 approached him.
One of them pulled out the weapon, which was eight inches long and had a leather strap around its handle, grabbed £55 and a phone then fled towards Flagstaff Road.
The first robber was described as 6ft tall, skinny with a thin pale face and was wearing a white puffed-style jacket with a hood over his head, blue jeans and trainers.
The second man was 5ft 10ins tall with a stocky build, mousy brown hair, spots around his mouth and was wearing a green, camouflage jacket.
Detective Sergeant Roy Clark, of Colchester CID, said the victim, in his 40s, was unhurt, and appealed for witnesses to call 01206 762212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
