Benfleet High Road was shut for an hour yesterday afternoon while firefighters removed a broken lamp post which was dangling on some telephone cables.
Crews were called to the scene at 1.40pm after the lamp post was snapped off at the base and was left dangling precariously over the wires.
They were then joined by officers from Benfleet police station who closed off the road while they made the area safe.
