Harlow's promotion hopes faded on Saturday as Marcus Rose scrambled in an injury time equaliser for Walton and Hersham in a 1-1 draw at Stompond Lane.
Harlow knew victory was essential were they to keep pace with the top three, and amidst difficult playing conditions they settled quickest on Saturday, taking the lead on the stroke of half-time as home keeper Luke Garrard spilt the ball into Soner Zumrutel's path, who in turn smashed home.
Walton pressed hard in the second half with Paul Harkness shooting straight at the ever-reliable James Hassell before smacking an upright.
At the other end James Geraghty almost secured the points but his header was cleared away off the goalline. And three minutes into injury time tragedy struck as Steve Golding's long throw caused havoc in the Harlow box, with Rose adjusted to have got the final touch as the ball spun over the goalline.
Harlow remain 5th, eight points adrift of 3rd-placed Aylesbury United.
