Fitness trainer Jim Mazzoni-Dalton is preparing for a tough challenge crossing the hot Sahara Desert.
Lance-Corporal Mazzoni-Dalton is a physical training instructor with 3 Para and is swapping his somewhat colder home at Hyderabad Barracks in Mersea Road to run the Marathon of the Sands.
The annual race covers 150 miles of the Moroccan Sahara Desert in five one day stages, so L Cpl Mazzoni-Dalton, 28, will be completing the equivalent of nearly a marathon each day in temperatures which can reach 120 degrees F.
In training for the Sahara
He has raised more than £2,000 to fund the expedition and a further £1,000 for the children's ward at Colchester General Hospital.
He said he does not expect the heat to cause too many problems because of tours of duty he has done in Belize and other hot places.
"But I've never had to do as much running in the heat so it will be a real challenge," he added.
The 28-year-old has raised more than £2,000 to fund the expedition and a further £1,000 for the children's ward at Colchester General Hospital and is hoping to raise more sponsorship.
