Grays kept up their superb recent form, rocketting five past Chesham United in a Buckinghamshire goal spree.
With ambitions of a title charge falling the way of fantasy with Canvey and Gravesend dominating at the top, Grays have the very real chance of a top three finish this season, and such notions were confirmed on Saturday with a convincing away success.
On-loan livewire striker DJ Campbell put United in front early on, though Grays' territorial advantage was bound to tell eventually, and they equalised on 42 minutes as Nathan Thomas spun and fired home.
No sooner had parity been restored was Campbell at it again - the Stevenage man executing a superb overhead kick to make it 2-1.
Athletic rallied in the second half though with Thomas bagging his second, before Tony Lock and Alex Fiddes gave the scoreline a somewhat flattering look at 4-2.
Campbell notched again to complete a highly impressive hat-trick before Mervin Abraham made the game safe with the fifth - Grays remain four points clear of Aldershot who sit 4th.
