A goal from Robbie Fowler and a penalty from Ian Harte gave Leeds a 2-0 victory at Elland Road last night and pushed Ipswich Town perilously close to the relegation zone.
The defeat for the Tractor Boys leaves them just one point above the drop zone.
There were changes on both sides for the match with Rio Ferdinand back for Leeds and George Burley welcoming back Jamie Clapham, John McGreal, Fabian Wilnis and Alun Armstrong.
Town managed to keep pace with Leeds during the first half but within seconds of the start of the second period Fowler struck the ball which bounced over diving keeper Andy Marshall and into the net.
Jim Magilton went close twice for Town but Leeds then ensured all three points with a second goal from the penalty spot after Alan Smith was judged to have been brought down by Andy Marshall.
Harte stepped up to put home the penalty.
