Veterinary staff have issued a warning after two cats were found poisoned in Wivenhoe.
The first tabby was brought into the Colne Valley Veterinary Practice in Maudlyn Way, Colchester, on Thursday, displaying "typical" symptoms of poisoning loss of balance, wobbly legs and confusion.
She was so ill that she had to be put down by a vet the following day.
The second cat was brought into the practice on Monday, suffering from the same symptoms.
Nurse Kez Smart said: "We believe they've been poisoned, but we don't know if it was intentional. It's likely that they were poisoned either by insecticides or rodent poisons."
Staff at the practice wanted to draw attention to the plight of the cats in order to warn people about the dangers of rodent poisons and chemical insecticides to all animals.
