Two prestigious apartment blocks in Purfleet are now ready to be occupied after a £1.2m cash injection from the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).
The Harrison's Wharf apartment, built off London Road by Bellway Homes, might never have been more than an architect's drawing without the help of EEDA.
EEDA was established to be the driving force behind economic regeneration in the East of England, covering Essex, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Bellway Homes had to carry out major civil engineering works to build the homes, including site clearance, reclamation works and the construction of a new river wall.
The site - part of the Thames Gateway - was formerly occupied by heavy industry and petrochemical companies.
Delia Cook, senior development manager for EEDA, said: "The housing scheme at Harrison's Wharf had high abnormal development costs because of the scale and type of work needed to prepare the land.
"Purfleet will benefit from the spin-offs from the project which have already meant extra work for local sub-contractors, as well as the long-term boost to the local economy which will come as new resident move into the apartments."
