An intercontinental weekend aimed at building bridges between Harwich and Holland has been secured.

About 250 Dutch people are due to come to Harwich this summer for two days of contests, entertainment and socialising.

Harwich town centre manager Tony Whitmarsh, who has helped organise the trip, said the weekend would pave the way for future events between the countries.

"The idea is that people will come across from Holland this year and next year we will be able to take a group over there," he said.

Mr Whitmarsh said a final programme was being put together for May 25 and 26.
