Members of the Fair Trade Foundation will be manning a stand in Grays Town Centre next Saturday to highlight the shameful treatment of small producers by the world food trade.
Visitors will have the chance to win a holiday and to try free samples of food. But there will be a serious underlying message illustrating the shabby treatment of many of the growers who supply raw materials for the international food market.
A spokesman for the group said: "The Fair Frade Foundation exists to ensure a better deal for small farmers."
"The stand will have on display 'fair-trade' goods stocked by local supermarkets and there will be free samples, while stocks last, the chance to win the holiday in Costa Rica, free recipes and lots more."
The stand will be in the town centre between 9am and 5pm.
