Burglars stole £1,000 when they raided fruit machines at a Parkeston social club.

They forced a hole in the back door of the Parkeston Railway Club, in Hamilton Street, climbed through and moved two games machines last night.

The burglars then forced the back off one of the fruit machines and smashed another completely before stealing £1,000 in small change from them.

The incident is thought to have happened between 11.30pm yesterday and 8am today. The club had security but the alarms did not sound.

PC Rachel Levy, of Harwich police, asked any witnesses to contact her on 01255 241312
