Tony Kinsella resigned as manager of Witham Town and said: "I feel let down by the club."

The former Ipswich Town midfielder quit yesterday after a year-and-a-half in charge of the Spa Road outfit.

He cited the club's 'lack of ambition' as the main factor behind his decision.

The club currently sit in seventh place in division three with the top six to be promoted under a restructuring of the Ryman League.

But Witham were dealt a body blow last week when it was revealed their ground needs upgrading if they are to go up.

Contractors are unable to make the necessary changes in time for the March 31 deadline.

Kinsella said: "My player budget was halved at Christmas and now this is the last straw.

"I feel that the board haven't kept their side of the bargain. We've been getting the results on the pitch but I feel the work on the improvements should have been completed by now.

"It now means that the rest of the season is meaningless now. How can I motivate the players? I feel let down."

Witham chairman Dave Knott said: "I'm sad to see Tony go. We wish him all the best for the future and he will always be welcome at the club."

He added: "We're buying our ground and that's due to be finalised this week. That's something the club have been trying to do for years and years.

"It's an unfortunate set of circumstances that's led to Tony leaving but we are still building for the future. We have to put things in place."
