A major police search was sparked after a pair of trainers were discovered by the side of the road.

Police fear a serious road crash could have taken place and are trying to track down the owner of the adult-sized shoes.

A police patrol car was driving along Rectory Road in Rochford on Sunday evening when officers spotted the trainers, along with fishing gear.

The air support and police dog units were called in to make a search, but nothing was found.

Police are now keen to track the owner of the shoes, which are grey with blue trimmings, to rule out the possibility of an accident.
