Two people were left with serious injuries after falling victim to a hit-and-run driver as they headed home after a night out in Colchester.
The 21-year-old woman and her 27-year-old male friend were walking home along Priory Street, just before reaching the car park there, when the car was in collision with them
But the driver of the vehicle, thought to be a red Ford Fiesta, failed to stop after the incident at 2.45am on Sunday, which left the young woman with a collar bone injury and her friend with serious leg injuries.
The pair were taken to Colchester General Hospital by ambulance, where the man is still being treated for his injuries but the female was released after receiving treatment.
Now Stanway traffic police are appealing for witnesses to the accident in a bid to trace the driver.
PC Dave Grimshaw said: "We believe there will have been a lot of people around at the time and the victims have said there were quite a lot of people about."
Any witnesses should contact PC Grimshaw on 01206 762512
