Oldham boss Mick Wadsworth was delighted to take three points off the U's one of his former clubs.

But he said: "Colchester deserve a lot of credit.

"They caused us great trouble in the first half and must have gone in at half-time wondering where we had got our two goals from.

"Colchester passed the ball around and played some very good football and that's a great testament to Steve Whitton and his assistant George (Geraint) Williams.

"Steve was a trusty luietenant to me and when I left Layer Road, I was delighted that he got the manager's job.

"We all know Colchester operates under a finite budget. I experienced that also at Scarborough and Carlisle so Steve and his team must take major credit for what they are achieving and for getting some young assets like Kemal Izzet and Thomas Pinault out there on the pitch."
