Braintree made heavy weather of bottom club Croydon's challenge on Saturday, emerging narrow 2-1 winners.
The visitors, facing something of a dangerous relegation battle as the season nears to a close, took the lead on 24 minutes as Seb Favata was afforded an acre of space with which to run into the box and beat Paul Catley.
Town hit back just four minutes later as Robbie Reinelt's shot was spilled by keeper Matt Martin for top scorer Nicky Simpson to stab home with ease.
Favata then went close again with a shot that rattled Catley's post, and within minutes the hosts were ahead as Reinelt sent Tommy Noble through to evade the challenge of a covering defender before firing home.
A lacklustre display by Braintree, but one that maintains their 5th place in the division.
