More than 50 caravans could be stationed on land in Great Saling to house people building the new A120.
A planning application has been put forward to change the use of Grove Field for the stationing of 55 caravans.
The application is for a temporary period while work is carried out on building the new A120 between Braintree and Stansted.
The proposal has been put forward by Amanda Ratcliff, owner of Saling Grove, which is a conference centre, and Grove Field.
She said because the land is already used as a rally site for caravan clubs she believes she can do a "good job" of running the site for the workers.
A separate planning application has also been submitted to move a marquee which goes up in the Saling Grove's walled garden through the summer.
Planning permission is already held for the marquee to go up from April to October.
