A team of 13 male runners from Billericay Striders, well supported by other club members, joined a total field of 180 competitors for the Essex AAA Veteran Cross Country Championships 2000 in Hylands Park.
A muddy and undulating five mile course set out by Chelmsford AC presented the veteran athletes from all over Essex with a challenging set of cross country championship races.
In the Over 40 men's race Billericay Strider David Jones finished 12th out of 97 runners and the Striders team were fifth out of 15 teams.
In the over 50 men's race Steve Fulker was the first Strider home in fourth position out of 83 with the Strider's team gaining a silver medal finishing in second position out of 12.
Ian Grant completed a successful afternoon for the Striders by finishing second in the over 60 individual championship thus gaining another silver medal.
Team captain John Halliday said: "This is an excellent result for Billericay Striders.
''Everyone performed well on the day, bringing credit to the club and to the town."
