Man-of-the-match Barry Conlon enjoyed his best game yet in Colchester colours against Oxford, scoring one of the goals, having a big hand in the other two and twice hitting the crossbar into the bargain.
The big Irish target man said: "I really enjoyed myself out there and I'm just happy we won.
"When we were two goals up we should have finished them off, but Oxford hit us with two quick goals. I don't really care as long as we win and in the end this was three great points for us.
"As for the two that hit the bar and the chance right at the end that I should have put away too, some days they go in and some days they don't. As long as I can go on scoring and setting up goals for others I know I'm doing my job right.
"I'm getting fitter with every match and am feeling all the better for it. A lot of credit must go to the rest of the boys for the way they stuck to their task and hit back after Oxford had threatened to spoil our night."
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has now scored in each of his last three games and said: "I've set myself a target for the rest of the season.
"At the very least I will be aiming to reach double figures."
