Campaigners have resolved to carry on fighting to ensure that Brentwood gets a cinema once again.

Film fans were up in arms when Odeon announced that it was closing the ABC in Chapel High last month.

But now campaigner Cllr David Kendall, the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate, says he plans to write to other cinema chains asking them to consider moving into the vacant building.

He has already written to Odeon asking them to reconsider their move and open up talks with Brentwood Borough Council and other interested parties in an effort to get the cinema re-opened.

But he was told in a letter that the decision was final.

He said: "I know this news will come as a big disappointment to the many people who used the cinema, particularly the younger and older members of our community like the Senior Citizens' Cinema Club.

"However there is still a chance that another operator will consider coming to Brentwood and I believe we should fully explore this possibility before we throw in the towel and accept the fact that we have lost our cinema forever."
