Jubilee Cup holders Thorpe Bay are set to defend their title in this year's final.

Bay defeated hosts Hockley 3-0 in the semi-final to secure their big match appearance against Westcliff Hardcourts.

The winning team were made up of David Tubbs, Graham Bloomfield, Jon Lee, Chloe Taylor, Chris Newbury and Mandy Acton.

Hockley were represented by Chris Frankis, Paul Birrell, Val Birrell, Kate Bennett, Kevin Eley and Gill Ayres.

The final of the Southend and District LTA competition, which was founded in 1977 to mark the Queen's Silver Jubilee, will be played at Hockley's Folly Lane home in the new year.

Southend and District League action also saw the "Battle of the Barhams" as brothers Richard and David competed against each other in the association's winter doubles championship.

Westcliff Hardcourts player Richard paired up with Westcliff Lawn's Bryan Rivers to face his younger brother David and Mike Pearson, who were representing Rayleigh.

But it was the senior sibling who came out on top after the Westcliff duo won 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Westcliff Lawn and Hardcourts faced each other across the net in another derby at the weekend.

Lawn hosted the Essex League Winter Division One ladies' match this time around and sent their visitors away defeated.

Hazel Wynn, Lindsay Watt, Sarah Ball and Diana Carradus ensured the home club won 3-1 on events.

The defeated Hardcourts team was Anna Burton, Karen Poole, Sue Hookway and Dawn Handelaar.

Thorpe Bay pairing Alan Rayner and Graham Ray enjoyed a straight sets victory in the Essex Over-45 Winter Championship.

They beat Frinton duo Nigel Castle, who once played for Westcliff Hardcourts, and Colin Minter 6-4 6-4.

Thorpe Bay tennis club was packed out on Sunday when it held a charity day in aid of Lancaster School in Prittlewell Chase, Southend. The special needs school will benefit to the tune of around £3,500.
