Jimmy Clewley celebrated his arrival at Clacton Town with two goals in the Seasiders' 2-2 derby draw with Harwich and Parkeston.

The former Wivenhoe Town striker, expected to sign a two-year deal later this week, curled home a shot from the edge of the box to earn his side a last-gasp point.

Prior to that Clewley, making his debut, finished a slick counter-attack with a neat finish to put Town in front.

Harwich equalised through Matt Carmichael and thought they had done enough to win when, with four minutes left, Tom English rifled home a penalty after being fouled.

Then Clewley cracked home the second of his two goals to ensure honours finished even.

Clacton boss Mick Potter said: "Jimmy was absolutely outstanding. He hit the bar before he scored and, if truth be known, we should have two or three up at half-time.

"We were controlling the game but just didn't come out of the dressing room after the break and that was very disappointing for me.

"Full credit to Harwich. They worked hard and played to a system but I felt we should have got the points. Several players let themselves down and they know it."

Clacton had Chris Senk to thank for securing the points against Felixstowe and Walton on Saturday.

Speaking after his side's 1-0 triumph, Potter said: "We never reached the heights we did against Halstead and Soham but I know that can't happen every time."

Harwich boss Andy Clark was delighted with his team's performance over Christmas as they took four points from two games.

The Shrimpers followed a 3-1 win over Halstead on Saturday with the 2-2 draw at Clacton.

Clark said: "It's been a very good Christmas period for us and we needed to get at least a win."

Tiptree United were denied victory at home to Soham Town Rangers on Saturday as the visitors struck a late equaliser to grab a share of the spoils.

The Jam-makers got off to a great start when Steve Parnell put them ahead after only seven minutes, heading home Chris Powell's cross from the right.

But Soham battled back and levelled ten minutes into the second half.

Stand-in keeper Michael Bowester pulled off some fine saves to keep Tiptree on level terms, and afterwards manager Neil Farlie commented: "It was a tough game, but we have plenty of fixtures left so I'm confident we will climb away from the foot of the table."

The Boxing Day clash with local rivals Maldon Town was called off due to a water-logged pitch, and maybe just as well for Tiptree as Maldon hit top form the previous Saturday to overcome Woodbridge Town 3-0.

Their indifferent league form has been a worry for manager Colin Wallington, but he was happy after a rare home win against Woodbridge Town on Saturday.

Craig Huttley opened the scoring on 14 minutes with an accurate free-kick.

Maldon went on to dominate the first half, but appeared to be in too much of a hurry at times.

In the second half, the home side slowed the pace of their play and reaped the benefit as Scott Witney added a second midway through the half, and Ian Daly sealed the win with Maldon's third and his first for the club near the end.

Stanway Rovers had a successful Christmas period in division one of the Jewson League, taking four out of six points available.

Following Saturday's goalless draw at home to Dereham Town, Stanway hit back to beat local rivals Brightlingsea United on Tuesday, 2-1, with goals from Andy Sapey (penalty) and Duncan Jackson, who grabbed his first of the season.

The previous Saturday, the Oystermen secured a 1-1 draw at home to March Town, courtesy of a Stephan Fellow's goal on seven minutes.
