A young child has died of meningitis.
The tragedy happened after the child - thought to be under two years old - was taken to Colchester General Hospital.
North Essex Health Authority (NEEHA) confirmed today (Friday) a child had died from the brain disease.
The youngster was treated for the symptoms of meningitis, which include a dark red pin-prick rash, after being admitted to hospital on Wednesday.
