Jewson League soccer club Maldon Town could be in line for a huge New Year cash windfall courtesy of former striker Neil Harris.
Harris, 23, graced Maldon's Park Drive ground before moving to Dr Martens outfit Cambridge City.
He then made a lucrative £30,000 move to Nationwide League Second Division club Millwall in March 1998, where he has proved to be a revelation, scoring 40 goals in 80 League games up to the end of last season.
Harris is currently at the centre of multi-million pound transfer speculation, and Maldon's officials are watching developments carefully as they have a sell-on clause in the player's contract.
Preston North End have already had a £2.5 million offer for Harris turned down by Millwall, while West Ham are rumoured to be preparing a £6 million offer and Italian giants Inter Milan are thought to have watched the player on Saturday.
Cambridge City's cut of any transfer revenue is believed to be around ten per cent, and Maldon are in line for a substantial percentage of that.
The sort of amounts involved would certainly put Maldon in the reckoning for a Jewson League championship.
