Colchester United boss Steve Whitton is hoping to rearrange a Nationwide League Division Two game for Layer Road on the first Saturday of the New Year.
Swindon Town, the scheduled opponents on that day, are involved in an FA Cup third round tie against Coventry City, leaving the U's with a blank Saturday.
Whitton said: "If it's possible we will be trying to switch one of our future Tuesday night home games to January 6. I'm sure a Saturday game will be a bigger crowd-puller than a midweek game."
The likely candidates to switch their Tuesday game to Layer Road include Bury and Port Vale, who are both out of the cup.
Peterborough are now ruled out following their 1-0 win over Oldham which earned them a glamour third round tie against Premiership giants Chelsea.
The game against Swindon has now been rearranged for Tuesday, January 23.
The U's Supporters Association still have seats left for the coaches to Millwall on Boxing Day and Rotherham on December 30. Bookings can be made on Friday night at the CUSA hut or corner bar and by calling 0402 196409 between 7pm-10pm.
