In the latest round of Brentwood & District Table Tennis League matches, the Handicap Cup produced a number of surprise results.
South Weald eased to a comfortable victory over Billericay TT 'A', with Billericay's John Gagg, John Parodi, and Dave Carter unable to give away the points to the Weald trio of Paul Green, Chris Ellis and Terry Britton.
Billericay B fared no better and were defeated for the third time this season, this time to Brentwood B, despite Billericay being treated favourably by the handicapper.
For Brentwood, Kevin Worthington and Peter Farrow were models of consistency.
Highwood B trounced Billericay sports C 5-0 with Highwood's Calvin Wright, Fred Henwood and Ron Arthur unbeaten.
Billericay Sports C beat Buttsbury E 5-1 despite having to give their opponents up to 32 points.
Buttsbury B defeated South Weald C 5-4 with some close games, seven matches out of nine going to three in an entertaining session of table tennis.
The result was decided at the death when Ian Fox played Peter James in the last match of the evening.
Fox took the first 21-18, while James took his revenge 21-18 in the second.
In the final game it was all square at 20-20 until mistakes were made and James ran out the winner 22-20 to clinch the match for South Weald.
In the Premier Division, Buttsbury A defeated Billericay A 8-2. Buttsbury's John Holland and Regan Nettlingham played consistently and comfortably picked up their singles.
John Gagg won his singles match against Andrew Halling for Billericay and the experience of Dave Carter and John Gagg triumphed in the doubles against Regan Nettlingham and Andy Halling.
In the other top flight match, Billericay Sports A beat Herongate 7-3.
In the first division, Billericay C drew 5-5 with St Joseph's.
The combination of Roger Fuller and Sue Hickman ensured that the points remained level in the doubles.
South Weald A lost 7-3 to Buttsbury B, Buttsbury fielding one of their strongest sides and relied heavily of Tony Halling to win the points.
In the second divison, Hutton C defeated Herongate 8-2 with Reg Innes in tremendous form for Hutton, as he won his singles and then combined with Peter Coles to se off Martin Winter and Bob Hermitage in the doubles.
Bob Hermitage must have cursed his luck, as he narrowly lost the third of his singles.
