A lucky winner who scooped a two-minute trolley dash in a competiton donated the prize to five elderly people.
The anonymous donor won first place in a raffle organised by the Brightlingsea Community Association.
The winner would have had the chance to run round Brightlingsea Fiveways Co-op filling up his trolley with £200 worth of goods.
But instead the prize will now be split between elderly people who will receive hampers full of food.
