Cyclists will have to dismount to get to Witham town centre under a new one-way system approved by councillors.

Guithavon Road, Witham, has been a one-way street since 1997, but cyclists have been able to ride against the flow of traffic on a blocked-off side of the street to gain access to shops surrounding Newland Street.

County planners now say delivery vans and lorries which use Guithavon Road make the route unsuitable for cyclists, and under a new one-way order the right of cyclists to use one lane of the road has been removed.
